Starting tomorrow you may notice increased Air Force traffic over the skies of Cape Breton. Coordinated Search and Rescue training exercises will be running from May 1st to the 5th, mainly in the Margaree Valley and southeast of Louisburg. The exercises, which will take place daily between 8am and 11pm, will involve squadron 413 from 14 Wing Greenwood, the Canadian Coast Guard, Coast Guard Auxiliary and Civil Air Search and Rescue.

The Cape Breton West ISlanders have advanced to the final of the Telus Cup National Midget Hockey Championship. The Islanders downed top ranked Mississauga 2-1 in yesterday’s semifinal. No Atlantic region team has ever won the national championship.

Ottawa took a two nothing series lead in the Eastern Confernece semifinal after a 6-5 double ot win over the Rangers;
Elsewhere it was the Penguins with 6-2 win over Washington – Pittsburgh now leads that series two games to none.
