NS internet speeds

Provincial taxpayer’s will be spending another $1.4 million to connect 5,400 homes and 420 businesses in rural areas in Nova Scotia to high-speed internet over the next 6 months.

22 projects have been announced to address persistent complaints in rural areas that download speeds are too slow and internet connections unreliable.

A number of residents and small business people were at the Northfield District Fire Hall yesterday to hear Premier McNeil say that access to high speed internet is a basic right.

Northern Cod numbers

Northern Cod are making a bit of a comeback off eastern Newfoundland and Labrador, 25 years after the moratorium.  But the D-F-O says they are still at critically low numbers and fishing should be kept at the lowest levels as a safeguard.

The Fish, Food and Allied Workers union; however, says quotas can be raised without hurting the recovery.
