G-20

Anti-globalization activists have rioted for a second night in Hamburg as the German city plays host to the G-20 leaders’ summit.

Police say the riots in the early hours of Saturday were extremely violent, with protesters looting supermarkets and attacking officers using slingshots and Molotov cocktails.

World leaders, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, will come together later Saturday to tackle issues including terrorism, climate change and trade.

Khadr

The federal government has apologized to Omar Khadr, sparking a new round of political finger-pointing over an issue that’s divided Canadians for more than a decade.

A tersely worded statement released on Friday followed reports that Ottawa had paid out a 10.5-million-dollar settlement to the former Guantanamo Bay prisoner.

Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale confirmed that a settlement was reached, but did not confirm the amount.

Conservative leader Andrew Scheer called it “disgusting,” and said he would have continued to fight the settlement in court.
