Illegal immigration concerns

There are worries that the winter numbers of illegal immigrants could turn into a spring flood.

The Trudeau liberals plan on in-depth discussions this week on how to handle the pressures from the rising number of illegal aliens sneaking into Canada from the U.S.

Cabinet will mull over giving the Immigration and Refugee board more resources; at the taxpayer’s expense.

The Opposition Conservatives are among those demanding a crackdown on illegal immigration.

PotashCorp may continue salt operations

PotashCorp is mulling over possibly continuing to cut salt for icy New Brunswick roads beyond this winter.

Officials say they are looking into possible options to find out if it may be viable to mine salt, even after its contract to Cargill in Penobsquis, which buys and stores the road salt; expires.

Cargill’s deal with the province’s DOT, also runs out at the end of April; PotashCorp’s original plan was to suspend salt mining at that time.

About 150,000 metric tons of salt is required for the provincial highway network every winter.
