Mathew Duke

A 20 year old Saint John man is going back to the Restigouche Hospital Centre in Campbellton indefinitely.

Mathew Duke stole a school bus in February and went on a rampage on the west side of Saint John, smashing into two police cruisers.

Duke is facing seven charges but remains unfit to stand trial. Psychiatrists say he is refusing to take his medication or engage in treatment.

The judge ordered him remanded and his case sent to the Review Board which will decide when he is fit to stand trial.

Military Exercises

The Canadian Army is practising its ability to respond to emergency situations in Nova Scotia over the weekend.

The excessive named “Staged Response” tests the army’s ability to respond to major emergencies in Atlantic Canada.

Reserve and regular forces will participate in the annual exercise taking place in western Nova Scotia.

In January, the 5th Canadian Division’s Immediate Response Unit, also involved in the excercise, was deployed in northern New Brunswick after it was hit with a huge ice storm.
