NB passenger train concerns

New Brunswick VIA Rail passenger train service might be threatened due to a clause in a deal made 3 years ago by the former Alward Government.

That pact was made in order to upgrade track between northern and southern New Brunswick, to preserve freight service.

The deal says that CN could pull out of the province if freight levels drop over a two year period.

VIA passenger trains use the same tracks.

The clause does not kick in until 2019, when the company will compare freight levels against the 2012 ones.

Saint John “basket-brawl” during an anti-bullying theme night

A brawl during a basketball game at Saint John Harbour Station last week has resulted in 52 games worth of player suspensions and 13-thousand-dollars in fines.

The brawl between the Saint John Riptide and the Kitchener Waterloo Titans took place during an anti-bullying night theme at Harbour station on Thursday.

The Nationl Basketball League says that nine members of the Saint John squad have been handed a combined 29 games in suspensions and fines totalling 75-hundred-dollars.

In order for the teams to dress enough players for upcoming games, the league ruled that each team will serve the suspensions three players at a time.
