Mi’kmag lands in the Halifax area regarding schools

Part of the morning program in schools in Halifax may include an ackowledgement that the school sits on traditional Mi’kmag lands.

The School Board is considering a daily acknowledgment to be read out as part of the morning announcements.  Board member Jessica Rose calls ita fantastic idea that could help aboriginal students gain a sense of pride in their heritage.  She also thinks the curriculum should have more on the history of indigenous people.

Trudeau talks pot

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was talking about the legalization of marijuanna and how minorities and people with little means don’t have the option of clearing their names in the justice system.

As an example he used his younger brother Michel who was arrested in 1998 after he was involved in an accident.  The current PM says his father was able to get his brother a good lawyer and help him avoid a criminal record.  He says legalizing grass will help alleviate that disparity.
