Police Identify Victim of Fatal Cape Breton Crash

A 90-year-old woman from Big Pond has been identified as the victim of a three vehicle collision in Howie Centre, Cape Breton on Friday morning. RCMP say the woman was a passenger in a Toyota Yaris and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 63-year-old woman driving the vehicle was also seriously injured. The crash closed parts of highway 4 from the time of the crash around 10:30 am until 8;30pm Friday evening. The occupants of the other two vehicles involved escaped injury. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Maritimers Miss Cut as Canada Names Next Astronauts

A pair of Maritimers narrowly missed the cut to become Canada’s next astronauts. Alex Delorey of Moncton and Michael Anthony Jordan from Halifax had been shortlisted from thousands of applicants to be among the final 17 candidates. However, neither made the final cut when Canada’s two new astronauts were announced during Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa yesterday. With Justin Trudeau on hand – Jennifer Sidey of Calgary and Joshua Kutryk from Fort Saskatchewan, Alta were announced as the next two Canadians who will venture into space
