Genetic testing bill nixed

Liberal backbenchers joined Conservatives and New Democrats to shoot down a bill that bars Health and life insurance companies from forcing clients to disclose any genetic testing results.

The backbenchers went against the wishes of Prime Minister Trudeau who said the government had to defend the constitution and that the bill intruded on provincial jurisctions.

In the NHL, the Sens beat the Stars 5 to 2.

It was the Penguins over the Jets 7 to 4.

In the NBA, the Raptors beat the Pelicans 94 to 87.

In the AUS consolation series Acadia defeated Saint Mary’s 3 to nothing, so the Axemen will be heading to the national championship in Fredericton next week.

Manitoba’s Mike McEwen improved to 7-and-1 at the Tim Hortons Brier with a 9-3 victory over Nova Scotia in the late draw in St. John’s, Newfoundland.  Hometown favourite Brad Gushue also won his night draw, beating Quebec 7 to 3 to improve to 6-and-2.

In the MHL, Miramichi visits Dieppe tonight at 7:30; Pictou hosts Truro, tonight at 7.  The Ramblers visit Campbellton tomorrow night at 7:30.
