Sears woes

Industry experts are calling it part of the demise of the department store.

Sears Canada is closing 59 stores and slashing 29-hundred jobs under a court-supervised restructuring plan.

One marketing strategist says many department stores lost touch and stopped responding to the needs of the consumer many years ago.

Sears has seen its stock nosedive despite efforts to refashion itself at a time when more people are opting to shop online.

Sears locations in Halifax, Dartmouth and Truro are among those set to close across Canada.

Tidal power boost from taxpayer’s

Federal taxpayer’s are putting a million dollars into the Offshore Energy Research Association to address knowledge gaps in tidal power.

Federal Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr says few countries have the advantages we do when it comes to tidal power with the longest coastline of any nation on three oceans.  But Carr says for all of our expertise, there are still gaps in our knowledge and unanswered questions; including when it comes to the environmental effects.
