In the Maritime Hockey League;
The Summerside Western Capitals won 5-2 over Dieppe to clinch their first round playoff series 4-games-to-2.

In the Q;
The Halifax Mooseheads lost a heart breaker 2-1 in overtime to the Rouyn Noranda Huskies as that series is now even at a game a piece;
Cape Breton edged Gatineau 7-6 in overtime to take a two nothing lead in their first round series;

The Charlottetown Islanders took a two games to none lead in their first round series after a 9-2 win over Baie Comeau;

THe Saint John Sea Dogs are up two games to none after a 4-1 win over Rimouski; Elsewhere Acadie Bathurst downed Quebec 6-2 to take a two-nothing lead in that series.

In the NHL;
Vancouver upset the Wild 4-2;
Boston edged the ISlanders 2-1;
Toronto lost 5-2 in Buffalo;
Calgary edged the Flames 3-2 in overtime;
Montreal won 3-1 over Ottawa;
and it was Edmonton over Colorado by a score of 4-1.

Diana Whalen

Nova Scotia Justice Minister Diana Whalen has announced she will not run again in the next provincial election.

Whalen also serves as deputy premier and MLA for Clayton Park West.

Whalen took a leave of absence from cabinet after she had a heart attack in December. She said she will remain in her role as justice minister and deputy premier until the next election.
