Multiple Cases of Counterfeit American Money used in HRM

The RCMP and Halifax police are warning the public after numerous reports of counterfeit american money being used in the HRM. Police say there have been 8 reports of counterfeit 20 dollar, 50-dollar and 100 dollar US bills being used in the Halifax area since late February, including financial institutions in Dartmouth and Halifax, a gas station and pharmacy in Halifax, and businesses in Tantallon and Fall River. Police are advising the public that they do not have to accept any money they suspect could be counterfeit and are warning that once you accept a counterfeit bill you are not entitled to reimbursement.

Halifax Cab Driver Aids Woman Being Assaulted

A Halifax cab driver came to the aid of woman being assaulted by a man in Halifax on Friday afternoon. Police say shortly after 4pm a woman was texting while walking and nearly bumped into a man at the intersection of Inglis and Brussels street in the city’s South end. The man confronted the woman and allegedly began assaulting her. A taxi driver passing by picked up the women, called police and followed the suspect to a nearby business. Police arrested the 40-year-old man and he’s been charged with assault. The victim was not seriously injured.
