Vimy Ridge ceremonies

The 100th anniversary of the Battle at Vimy Ridge was remembered solemnly yesterday by a huige crowd at the Canadian Vimy Memorial in France.

Thousands of Canadians were there to honour the 3,600 Canadians who died and 7,000 who were wounded taking the ridged where other countries had failed.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke as did Prince Charles on behalf of the Queen. He said Canadians displayed a strength of character and commitment to one another that is still evident today.

Glace Bay blaze

Nobody was hurt when flames forced a couple and their 8 year old grandson out of their home on Hector Street in Glace Bay yesterday afternoon.

The Red Cross is helping them with emergency lodging, food, and supplies.
