World War Two’s Battle of the Atlantic is being commemorated in North Sydney today. The Battle of the Atlantic was waged between allied and German naval and air forces from September of 1939 until May of 1945. 72 Canadian merchant vessels were lost to the enemy over the course of the battle to secure supply lines to Europe. A parade from the North Sydney Ballast Grounds to St. Joseph’s Church will begin at 3 p.m – ending with a wreath laying ceremony.

Yarmouth Ferry Bookings Up
The operators of the Yarmouth to Maine Ferry says advanced bookings are up five times compared to last season. Bay Ferries Ltd tells the CBC the pre booked crossing are on par with what they were in 2007-2008 – when Bay Ferries previously ran the ferry service between Yarmouth and Portland, Maine. The season starts on May 31st with five crossings a week – that will be increased to seven days a week during the peak summer season.
