Sailboat Rescue

A rescue mission was launched Friday in the mid-Atlantic after vessels involved in a sailing race ran into trouble amid high seas and hurricane-force winds.
Joint Task Force Atlantic in Halifax said it was responding to distress calls from three vessels involved in the transatlantic race between the U.K. and Rhode Island.

Lt. Len Hickey of the Royal Canadian Navy said emergency beacons from the boats went off shortly after midnight. One of the sailboats lost its mast and the other two suffered damage to their hulls and rigging.

One of the boats had two sailors on board, while the other two each had one sailor.

Munro Park

Kraft Heinz Project Play and TSN will be hosting a celebration for the completion of Munro Park on Seaview Dr. in North Sydney this afternoon at 1:00 o’clock. There will be a free BBQ, entertainment, fun activities for the kids as well as an inaugural game on the new field.
After many truckloads of gravel, sods and top soil, the upgrades to the Munro Park Soccer Field are complete. The field has been raised, a piped drainage bed installed throughout, new players benches, bleachers and a monument dedicated to the people of North Sydney from Kraft Heinz Project Play.
