Ottawa is spending $1 million on National Acadian Day events across Atlantic Canada. Heritage Minister Melanie Joly announced the funding yesterday in Moncton. The holiday is celebrated August 15th.

Late Campbello Island whale rescuer honoured by celebs
Late whale rescuer Joe Howlett is being honoured publicly by celebrities who appreciate his efforts. Author Margaret Atwood called the Campobello Island man “heroic” on Twitter, and comedienne Sarah Silverman called him “a Saint”. Howlett was killed on Monday while rescuing a right whale in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
