Gulf of St. Lawrence fishing ban

Snow crab fishing has been halted in the gulf of St. Lawrence.

That’s because a number of endangered Right Whales are dying in the gulf by getting caught in fishing gear.

All snow crab gear had to be removed from the area by 4 p.m. this past Friday.

The closure will remain in effect until the end of the fishing season on July 28.

Premiers meeting

Provincial and territorial premiers are meeting in Edmonton this week.  The Council of the Federation brings all 13 together today and tomorrow.  They’re expected to discuss the economy, Canada-US relations, legalized marijuana and more.
