Miramichi Bridge

Rehabilitation work on the Centennial Bridge (Miramichi River No. 1 bridge) will involve several overnight closures.

The third overnight closure is scheduled to begin 11 p.m. Sunday April 30 until 5 a.m. Monday May 1. Those closures will be repeated for the next four nights, concluding the morning of Friday May 5.

Throughout the summer, the bridge will be limited to a single-lane at a time. Traffic Control lights are placed on the bridge to control traffic flow. Single-lane service began the morning of April 10.

Work for the 2017 season is expected to conclude in October.

Cooper the Labradoodle

A WestJet spokeswoman says the airline has offered to pay the vet bill for a dog that was missing for two days in Ontario after being placed on a wrong flight out of Halifax.

The dog’s owners say Cooper — a golden Labradoodle — was supposed to go to Deer Lake, Newfoundland, on Wednesday to stay with family but ended up in Hamilton.

While there, the dog got loose during a bathroom break and was finally found this morning — wet, dirty and starving, but otherwise O-K.

WestJet has apologized for the mishap, flew the dog’s owners to Hamilton and says it’s now working on getting the family back home.
