Westray disaster ceremonies

Ceremonies are being held today to mark the 25th anniversary of the Westray disaster.

It was May 9th, 1992, that 26 miners were killed when methane gas and coal dust ignited, sending a huge fireball through the tunnels.

There was a special commemoration ceremony at 6:45am at the Westray Miners Memorial Park.

Flood report

The flooding in Quebec has resulted in at least two deaths.

The body of a man was recovered from the water about 500 metres from where a car was swept into the surging Sainte-Anne River in the Gaspe.  A 2 year old girl is still missing, and a search continues.

Hundreds of communities throughout Quebec and in eastern Ontario continue to struggle with the flood waters.  1,500 soldiers have been sent in by the federal government to help.
