NS Grabher case

The provincial Supreme Court will hear the Grabher case February 1st.

Lorne Grabher’s personalized licence plate was revoked by the Registry of Motor Vehicles as “socially unacceptable.”  Grabher has said his family is proud of its Austrian-German heritage and he shouldn’t face discrimination just because his name is unusual.

His lawyers will argue that the plate’s removal violates the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Defence review

Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan will release the much-anticipated defence policy review today.

Sajjan is expected to make a case for billions of dollars in new spending on the military.

Yesterday, Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland called for a big boost in military spending in a major foreign policy speech in the Commons.  She said in a world, where allies can’t necessarily rely on an inward-looking U-S, there is a need for Canadian diplomacy and development sometimes to be backed by a principled use of force.
