Installation of giant tidal turbine in the Bay of Fundy is now underway. Cape Sharp Tidal says the 1,000 tonne turbine is being placed near Parrsboro using subsea cables to connect it to the the power grid. The giant turbine was moved from Saint John into the area on Friday night. CBC reports that the turbine was placed on its subsea base on Saturday and being moved to the deployment site in the Minas Basin. The installation has been criticized by various fishermen and environmental groups who argued they weren’t given a chance to collect baseline data before the deployment of the data – meaning they won’t accurate means to judge its effects on the environment.
