Vaccination reminder

Health officials across Canada are reminding people to make sure their vaccinations are up to date.  That’s because of an outbreak of 7 cases of measles and three of mumps just since the beginning of the year in the Halifax area.

The medical health officer for the region says most of the patients had not been fully immunized.  While most children are vaccinated against the diseases when they are young, people should get a booster shot in their twenties or early thirties.

Illegal immigration to Canada

Asylum seekers have been walking through the cold snow to get across the border from North Dakota into Manitoba recently, and Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen says it’s too soon to tell if that will continue.

Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister says the situation is getting out of hand and he fears it will only get worse as the weather gets milder.  His government is setting up emergency shelters for the American refugees and is asking Ottawa for help.
