Miramichi plea

26-year-old Timothy Robichaud of Miramichi has changed his plea to guilty to failing to comply with conditions that he not communicate with persons under the age of 16.

The RCMP in New Brunswick’s Internet Child Exploitation unit found out that the man was breaching his conditions by communicating with a youth from the United States.

Robichaud is in custody, he’ll be sentenced May 24th.

First Nations child welfare

The Canadian Human Rights Commission released its annual report to parliament which concentrated on child welfare services on First Nations.  The report said more attention needs to be paid to the rights of children, that they are being left behind when it comes to the basic rights of dignity, safety, education and family.

Although Ottawa has promised a fix for the system, First Nations groups say no real progress has been made.
