NB-NS Titanic graves connection

Retired Geologist D. Barrie Clarke, who’s originally from the Newcastle area of Miramichi; and three other authors say that the granite marking the graves of 149 of 150 Titanic sinking victims in three Halifax cemeteries came from the old Charles Hanson quarry in Charlotte County.

The Telegraph-Journal says Clarke was a professor of geology at Dalhousie University in Halifax.

The stone for the Titanic graves was cut from the Charles Hanson quarry at Bocabec near the border with Maine, hauled to the shore; then floated by barge to St. George where it was polished on two sides into “blanks,” then loaded onto trains for Halifax to be inscribed and placed in the cemeteries for the victims of the Titanic disaster.
