A long standoff between police and a suspect in Halifax came to a peaceful end on Saturday morning. Crisis negotiators were on the scene of the standoff between Halifax Regional Police and a man they say was armed with a knife. Police say an officer went to a home in Fairview on Friday to arrest a man in relation to an outstanding breach file. They say a man produced a knife while the officer was talking to him — and when the officer backed away to call for backup the man went back into the residence. At approximately 2:40 am on Saturday HRP Crisis Negotiators were successful in having the man exit the location and surrender. A 38 year old man, from Halifax, was taken into custody. He will appear in Halifax Provincial Court on Monday to face a variety of charges.
