Illegal immigration numbers

It’s the biggest group of illegal refugees to cross the border at Emerson, Manitoba; so far this year.

Another 29 asylum-seekers followed railway tracls and gravel roads across the snowy border from Saturday to Monday.  Local officials say there’s no indication the numbers will be slowing anytime soon.

The Salvation Army says it has housed 17 families since February 18th at a cost of about $100,000.

NS measles investigation

Public health officials are trying to get in touch with hundreds of people who may have come in contact with a person with measles.

The person was travelling internationally, so a lot of people may have been infected.

Dr. Ryan Sommers, at the Nova Scotia Health Authority; says they are looking for people who flew on WestJet flight WS254 from Toronto to Halifax on March 10 at 9:35 at night.  They are also looking for people who may have been exposed at the airport when the plane arrived early in the morning of March 11 as well as at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in West Caledonia on March 11 and the E-R at South Shore Regional Hospital from March 12th to March 15.
