Airport laser concerns

Transport Canada is reporting laser strikes were directed at two flights here and in Halifax just days apart.

The Civil Aviation Daily Occurrence Reporting System says an Air Canada Jazz flight en route to Halifax reported being hit by a green-coloured laser shortly after taking off from Sydney Monday night.

Another report says a West Jet Encore flight from St. John’s reported laser interference at it was landing in Halifax Saturday night.

Local police are investigating the incidents.

Valley CBC kerfuffle

Bill MacDonald, the mayor of Annapolis Royal; isn’t too pleased with Canada’s national broadcaster.

He is upset that a CBC mini-series on Canadian history hints that modern Canada started in Quebec in 1608.

MacDonald contends it started at Port Royal in 1605 with Canada’s first permanent settlement, Champlain’s Habitation.

Emma Bedard of the CBC countered by claiming they defined the permanence as demonstrated by Quebec City’s continuous population year-round and their ability to endure the harsh winters from 1608 onward, while the previous attempt at Port-Royal was cut short in 1607; as reported by the Annapolis County Spectator.
