The RCMP haven’t released the name of a 57 year old Port Hawkesbury man killed on the mainland side of the Canso Causeway Saturday.  His bicycle was hit by a truck near the weigh station and he died at the scene.

The Causeway was shut down for several hours while police investigated.  Fire stations on either side opened their doors as comfort centres for drivers.

The province has written off $15.2 million in student loans, uncollectable fines and other debts for the last fiscal year.

The Finance Department released the annual list of debts unlikely to be collected because of bankruptcy, death or property foreclosures.  Defaulted student loans accounted for more than $3 million of that.
