Scam warning

Businesses are being warned of a new telephone scam.

Hang up if someone claiming to be a local police officer phones, and asks for a donation to a community cause you allegedly supported in the past.

An apparent colleague of the caller then calls within ten minutes of the original call asking for payment.

Never make a donation over the phone to an unsolicited caller without verifying the caller by asking for their full name, job title and telephone number so you can check it out.

NS and Newfoundland cable project

A cable-laying ship has started rolling out the continent’s longest submarine electricity cables between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.

The two cables, which will stretch 170 kilometres, are each the width of a two-litre pop bottle.  They will carry power from Muskrat Falls to Point Aconi.  The cable will be uncoiled slowly from the back of the Skagerrak, which arrived this week, as it steams along at a whole 1 kilometre an hour.
