Arson in Middleton suspected

Middleton RCMP have determined a fire last weekend was a possible arson.

The vacant Torbrook Road house went up in flames overnight Saturday into Sunday.

A man was seen in the area shortly after the fire started.  Call police or Crime Stoppers with any information.

Kingston Fire Chief Watson Armstrong told the Annapolis County Spectator his fire fighters were put at risk fighting the fire, as they are whenever they have to deal with an arson.  He said nine times out of 10 the person does it for entertainment, starts the fire and sits there and watches them put it out.

Ottawa and human rights

Ottawa is going to crack down on countries with terrible human rights records.

Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland introduced legislation last night to expand international sanctions against gross human rights violators.  The bill is similiar to laws passed in other countries in honour of Russian whistleblower Sergei Magnitsky, who died in prison after accussing Russian officials of a $230 million tax fraud.
