Saint John “basket-brawl” during an anti-bullying theme night

A brawl during a basketball game at Saint John Harbour Station last week has resulted in 52 games worth of player suspensions and 13-thousand-dollars in fines.

The brawl between the Saint John Riptide and the Kitchener Waterloo Titans took place during an anti-bullying night theme at Harbour station on Thursday.

The Nationl Basketball League says that nine members of the Saint John squad have been handed a combined 29 games in suspensions and fines totalling 75-hundred-dollars.

In order for the teams to dress enough players for upcoming games, the league ruled that each team will serve the suspensions three players at a time.

Vaccination reminder

Health officials across Canada are reminding people to make sure their vaccinations are up to date.  That’s because of an outbreak of 7 cases of measles and three of mumps just since the beginning of the year in the Halifax area.

The medical health officer for the region says most of the patients had not been fully immunized.  While most children are vaccinated against the diseases when they are young, people should get a booster shot in their twenties or early thirties.
