The mandate is to hear appeals and render decisions under the Assessment, Community Planning, and Heritage and Conservation acts. Ottawa is making a 325 million dollar bet that the Atlantic Canada’s fishing industry has room to grow.
The new Atlantic Fisheries Fund is providing up to 325 million dollars to spur innovation and growth in the fishery, which currently employs about 58-thousand people.
The goal is to open up new markets in Asia and in Europe.
The fund will be used for marketing, as well as to support new ways to harvest and process fish.
