Vimy Ridge ceremonies

The 100th anniversary of the Battle at Vimy Ridge was remembered solemnly yesterday by a huige crowd at the Canadian Vimy Memorial in France.

Thousands of Canadians were there to honour the 3,600 Canadians who died and 7,000 who were wounded taking the ridged where other countries had failed.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke as did Prince Charles on behalf of the Queen. He said Canadians displayed a strength of character and commitment to one another that is still evident today.

Truro fire

A family of four is getting temporary accommodation help from the Red cross after being forced out of their rented house in Truro Saturday.

Nobody was hurt when flames forced the couple and their two children out the two-storey house on Birch Street.
