Amherst Big Bike totals

The recent Big Bike ride in Amherst raised just over 18 hundred dollars for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

The ride will also be in Cape Breton, Antigonish; Truro and The Valley before finishing up in August in Halifax.

The province-wide goal for the 2017 Big Bike ride is $240,000.

Economic group says raising Maritime minimum wage would cause problems

According to the the Atlantic Institute for Market Studies, increasing the minimum wage would likely worsen youth unemployment.

AIMS believes that boosting that, prices low-skilled persons out of work and reduces the opportunity for training and experience for young people.

Dr. Navarro-Genie of AIMS; says the Maritimes should “reduce the barriers to employment, raise the basic tax exemption; and let the private sector in Atlantic Canada do what they are best suited for: creating wealth and jobs.
