Halifax visit

The Defence Minister will be in Halifax today to release details of a new resource centre to make the transition from military to civilian life easier.

1,200 personnel in the transition group will support members nearing retirement as werll as those who have to leave the military due to physical and psychological injuries.

NATO request

Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan’s office says NATO has asked Canada to send police to Afghanistan to help train that country’s security forces.

NATO members will gather in Brussels later this month to announce what they can provide.  Canada ended its military mission there three years ago.  158 soldiers, one diplomat and one journalist were killed during the Canadian mission in Afghanistan which began in 2001.
