The Gallant Government is pushing back against municipalities which are angered over the property assessment freeze. Local Government Minister Serge Rousselle says the freeze for next year was the only responsible and fair choice.
The Mayors have complained, however, that the free puts municipalities in a precarious financial position because it’ll cost them revenue they were anticipating and built into budgets for next year.
Rousselle replied the municipalities have been given six months notice and it will only last one year until a new assessment is in place.
