Amherst flower project

Amherst is thinking about switching all of its hanging flower baskets over to the self-watering variety.

The town is using a self-watering hanging basket this year on a trial basis to find out if it uses less water than the traditional baskets and cuts down on the number of times it has to be watered.

The self-watering baskets have a six-litre reservoir beneath them.

It stores the water and the plants take it based on their need, according to the Citizen-Record.
