NS election leaders report

The party leaders were busy on the first full day of the election campaign.

Premier Stephen McNeil says there’s no question that gravel rural roads in the province have been neglected and are due for an upgrade.  McNeil said his Liberals will spend millions on improving not only the 100 series highways but on gravel roads as well which will add about $10 million to the costs announced earlier.

Tory Leader Jamie Baillie focused on infrastructure saying a Conservative Government would create a $2 billion infrastructure fund to build hospitals and roads and expand rural internet, with Ottawa paying half that cost.

NDP Leader Gary Burrill was talking about building new primary care clinics and hiring more doctors, nurses and nurse practioners at a cost of $120 million.
