UNB prof co-authors study on solar storms’ effect on Earth

A new study co-authored by a UNB professor shows eruptions on the sun’s surface not only contribute to the northern lights, but also disrupt radio communication and GPS systems on Earth.  Dr. Richard Langley and others found large sections of the Arctic ionosphere were left void of electrons after a solar storm. It could help further explain what causes blackouts in radio and satellite signals in the region, which limits air and marine travel.
