Ottawa has confirmed it was the Statistics Canada website that was hacked late last week; prompting Revenue Canada to shut down its tax filing webste over the weekend as well, to make sure private information on Canadians wasn’t compromised.
A forensic investigation has been launched into the breach, but experts say it may be impossible to nail down a specific hacker or even identify the country where it originated.
