Protest Campaign Planned After Acquittal in Taxi Sexual Assault Case

Marches and letter writing campaigns are planned in the coming days to protest a Nova Scotia judge’s acquittal of a taxi driver charged with sexual assault. Judge Gregory Lenehan ruled on Wednesday that the Crown hadn’t proved that an intoxicated young woman didn’t consent to sexual activity with the cabbie. He said in his ruling — quote — “A drunk can consent.” A coalition of 12 women’s agencies from across Nova Scotia is calling for Lenehan to be removed from the bench.
