MHL action had Pictou over the Ramblers 5 to 4 in OT.

 

Acadia beat Alberta 4-1 in the quarter final game to kick off the University Cup in Fredericton Thursday afternoon.  They advance to the semi finals Saturday at noon, playing either McGill or UNB.

In the NHL, the Leafs blanked the Lightning 5 to nothing.

Chicago beat the Sens 2 to 1.

The Jets doubled the Islanders 4 to 2.

The Oilers got past Boston 7 to 4.

It was the Stars over the Canucks 4 to 2.

NBA action had OK City over the Raptors 123 to 102.

Jail time for a Sydney Mines man

A Sydney Mines man is going back to jail for beating his girlfriend as well as a fellow inmate at a provincial jail.

21 year old Kevin Thomas Forrest pleaded guilty to two counts of assault causing bodily harm, three of breaching court orders; and a weapons count.  The judge noted Forrest had multiple convictions for such offences as robbery and assault with a weapon.  The judge cautioned Forrest that continuing with such offences will result in longer jail sentences.

Forrest was given 85 days credit for his time spent on remand reducing the sentence to 20 months.
