North American Occupational Safety and Health week

It’s North American Occupational Safety and Health week.

Officials at the Nova Scotia Community College in Springhill say that in 2015 in the province, 90 workplace injuries happened each day.

53 crushings, injuries; or contusions occurred every month.

Over 15 hundred workers needed time off due to slips or falls, which were the second leading cause of injuries in Nova Scotia.

Gabarus lighthouse status

The group that saved the Gabarus lighthouse from demolition wants CBRM to take over ownership.

DFO is divesating itself of lighthouses across the country and would have torn down the lighthouse if the Gabarus Lightkeepers Society had stepped in and operated it for the last two years.  But the Society says it can come to terms with Ottawa on taking over ownership saying the agreement is very onerous.  So it wants the muncipality to take ownership while the Society will continue to maintain it, keep the grounds clean and conduct tours.
