Province sending firefighters to help with BC wildfires

The province is sending fire fighting help to British Columbia.

The Department of Energy and Resource Development is sending 23 people from around the province to help fight the wildfires raging there.

The government typically hires students for the summer to work on fighting forest fires. They train them and ensure they pass physical-fitness tests. Those are the ones who’ll be going along with a crew chief and other support staff. They’re not part of local fire departments.

Moncton Mounties hurt during arrest

Two Codiac RCMP officers were hurt while trying to arrest a man Friday night in Moncton.  He went into the Greco Pizza on Killam Drive just before midnight, and police say while he had a knife he was asking for help, not trying to rob the place.  The suspect also suffered minor injuries during the incident, and police believe he may have been having a mental episode.
