Unusual armed robbery arrest

Codiac Regional RCMP have arrested a 12 year old boy in connection with an armed robbery at Handi’s convenience store on Second Avenue in Moncton Wednesday afternoon.

Police responded shortly after 1:00pm following a complaint that someone had entered the store carrying a knife, demanded cash and fled the store. Nobody was injured.

The youth remains in custody and will appear in court shortly.  The investigation is continuing.

Fired worker ordered reinstated

A Fredericton hospital lab worker, who was fired after missing more than a month of work because he was in jail, has been ordered re-instated. Labour adjudicator John McEvoy called the firing of Paul Lynch by the Doctor Everett Chalmers Hospital improper.

Lynch was sentenced to jail after his seventh drunk driving conviction. He said he wasn’t able to contact his bosses to tell them why he didn’t show up for work. The hospital fired him by registered mail, although the hospital was aware of rumours he had been jailed.
