Calls to lower restrictions on refugees from U-S

As more refugees try to flee the U-S to come to Canada, the College of Physicians and Surgeons is calling on Ottawa to lift some restrictions.

The College is concerned about the health of refugees trying to walk across the border in remote areas from north Dakota into Manitoba. There have been a couple of dozen refugees picked up doing that in the last couple of weeks…and that’s just the ones who have been caught.

Some immigration groups want Ottawa to repeal an agreement with the United States so people fleeing the U-S can go to official Canadian  border crossings to seek asylum.

Man convicted of killing Alberta couple and their grandson

A middle-aged Alberta man will likely spend the rest of his life in prison for killing a Calgary couple and their five year old grandson.

The jury convicted Douglas Garland of three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Alvin and Kathy Liknes and Nathan O’Brien.  He killed them then burned their bodies on his farm near Calgary. The jury also recommended he serve the three life sentences with no parole for 25 years consecutively rather than concurrently.
