He’s a Sergeant Again
A Halifax police officer has won an appeal of his demotion after he was involved in a routine traffic stop that turned into a confrontation with a Prince Edward Island couple.
Constable Matthew MacGillivray was demoted from sergeant in January after a Halifax Regional Police disciplinary officer found he had engaged in discreditable conduct and used unnecessary force.
The incident took place in September 2015 as the couple was en route from P-E-I to an appointment near Halifax.
In the decision by the Nova Scotia Police Review Board, the board found there was “no disciplinary default” of MacGillivray and granted the appeal.
