Skating Season at Halifax Oval in Jeopardy

It could be a short skating season for Halifax’s Emera Oval. High temperatures forced the Oval to close yesterday and with heavy rain and warm weather in the forecast there’s no guarantee it will open again this winter. Oval staff say they have yet to make a decision to close the oval for the season and are still hopeful that temperatures low enough to sustain the ice through March break will return.

Dog Rescued after Falling through Ice in Fredericton

Firefighters in Fredericton saved a dog that fell through thin Saint John River ice on Saturday morning. Fire officials tell the CCB the dog had wandered out 100-150 feet from shore off Woodstock Road in Fredericton when it fell through thin ice and could not climb out of the water. Firefighters used a rapid deployment water craft and were able to pull the dog on board. The canine was then taken to the vet to be checked out.
