Anderson Bridge replacement announced

Provincial and federal taxpayers will provide 94.4 million dollars in funding to build a new bridge across the Northwest Miramichi River.

Miramichi-Grand Lake MP Pat Finnigan, along with Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser; say the new bridge will replace the weakened Anderson Bridge on Route 8, which is presently down to one lane of traffic.

The next step is to determine when construction will begin.

Province still waiting for disaster assistance from Ottawa years later

The province is still waiting for cheques from Ottawa for disaster assistance, dating back years.

EMO boss Andrew Lathem told the legislature’s public accounts committee that the Feds still owe the province money for floods in Meat Cove in 2010 and Truro in 2014. Lathem says recouping disaster funds usually takes some time because Ottawa usually does several audits of claims to make sure they’re genuine.
