The Crown is appealing the sexual assault acquittal of Halifax cab driver Bassam Al-Rawi. Judge Gregory Lenehan acquitted him of the 2015 incident, citing the Crown’s failure to prove lack of consent. The Crown says there are several grounds for appeal, including Lenehan erring in law by speculating on the issue of consent, rather than drawing inferences from proven facts.

Drugs seized in Chester; two charged
Two South Shore men have been charged after cocaine, crack cocaine and believed-to-be fentanyl pills were seized. RCMP stopped a vehicle Sunday in Chester, with 31-year-old Matthew Kevin Glavine of Conquerall Bank and 52-year-old Calvin Stephen Bowles of Bridgewater charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. The former pleaded guilty, the latter is back in court today.
